Mame Coumba Diop, Minister auprès du ministre de la Culture, de l'Artisanat et du Tourisme, chargée de la Culture, des Industries créatives et du Patrimoine historique, caused a stir by leaving the National Assembly chamber during the Declaration de politique générale (DPG) delivered by the Prime Minister. Diop is a well-established political figure in Dakar, having served as a municipal councilor in Dakar-Plateau since 2002, demonstrating a rare longevity in the city’s political landscape. Her background is notably defined by strong familial political ties—she is the daughter of former Dakar mayor Mamadou Diop and the ex-wife of another former Dakar mayor, Khalifa Sall. Prior to her ministerial appointment on June 1st, 2026, Diop coordinated the women’s wing of the Coalition Diomaye Président and led the citizen’s movement “Trait-d'Union.” Her appointment was viewed by some in the Senegalese press as a sign of decreasing influence from the Pastef party within the executive branch. She officially took office on June 9th, 2026, following a handover ceremony with her predecessor, Bacary Sarr.
