Two auxiliary police officers in Thiaroye, Senegal, have been arrested following an extortion attempt on a mobile phone repairman. The officers, along with an accomplice, falsely accused the man of motorcycle theft and confiscated 110,000 FCFA (approximately $185 USD). The situation escalated when the repairman alerted bystanders, leading to a confrontation and the officers’ eventual apprehension. One accomplice escaped, and remains at large. The primary suspect confessed to the crime, claiming he needed the money to cover urgent medical expenses for his diabetic mother. While the taxi driver involved was initially detained, he was later released due to lack of involvement in the initial plan. The two officers are now in custody facing charges of conspiracy and extortion.
