Following complaints from SENELEC regarding recent acts of vandalism at its electrical posts, the Criminal Investigations Division (DIC) launched an investigation revealing a sophisticated criminal network. The investigation began after reports of theft and damage to SENELEC property. An initial suspect, Bour Saloum Guédel Ndao, incarcerated for similar offenses and temporarily released from Rufisque prison, confessed and implicated three accomplices. Subsequent arrests in Diamniadio led to the capture of Aliou Diallo and Arona Ba, who admitted to multiple robberies and identified additional collaborators. The investigation expanded to include Mamadou Kaly Sow and, crucially, Bisht Bankaj, an Indian national identified as the primary receiver of the stolen goods, who was apprehended in Diamniadio with stolen cables found in his warehouse. Two further receivers, Alassane Khouma and Mamadou Samba Boireau, were arrested near Diamniadio and Sébikhotane. A total of seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the scheme.
