Senegal’s customs authority, the Cosec, and Focus Investment Group have partnered to construct a new 110 billion CFA franc (approximately $185 million USD) container terminal in Touba. This strategic public-private partnership aims to decentralize customs and logistical operations, bringing them closer to consumption zones and streamlining transportation. The terminal, built on 40 hectares, will initially handle 100,000 containers annually, with potential to expand to 200,000. It will include customs warehouses, bulk silos, and a truck park accommodating 200 heavy vehicles daily, reducing delivery times and improving product traceability. The terminal is a core component of the larger "Touba Terminal" project, a 350-hectare Special Economic Zone, also including an industrial zone, agricultural exchange, and a 50 MW solar power plant. This development seeks to strengthen Senegal’s position as a key trade hub in West Africa and alleviate congestion in the capital city.
