Senegal has reached a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), pending review by the Fund’s Executive Board. The Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, expressed his congratulations to the Senegalese authorities, viewing the renewed cooperation as a positive development for Dakar and the wider West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). Brou stated the BCEAO consistently encouraged Senegal to re-engage with external partners, specifically the IMF. He believes the implementation of the agreement could accelerate Senegal’s stabilization efforts, particularly in macroeconomic and budgetary terms. A successful outcome could also restore confidence among partners and markets, strengthening the economy and banking sector. The BCEAO Governor cautioned that the deal still needs to be approved by the IMF Executive Board, and Dakar now awaits finalization of the process which is seen as a turning point.
