A Pastef party activist, Ibrahima Coly, has been arrested in Ziguinchor, Senegal, following the viral spread of a TikTok video containing insults directed at former President Macky Sall and members of his APR party. The video, posted on the “Généralati” TikTok account, quickly gained attention and prompted the public prosecutor to initiate an investigation. Coly, identified as the manager of the TikTok account and a security guard at Assane Seck University, is currently in police custody. He faces potential charges of public insults and indecent exposure. The investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the video's publication and determine Coly's level of responsibility. This arrest follows a pattern of increasing scrutiny regarding online political speech in Senegal. The prosecutor self-referred to the case due to public outcry.
