The Senegalese government has officially responded to the nearly two-month detention of basketball player Aminata Seck by U.S. immigration services. The Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese People Abroad announced it has activated diplomatic and consular services to monitor Seck’s situation, expressing concern for her detention conditions and health. Senegalese authorities in the United States have engaged with U.S. officials, focusing on Seck’s well-being and providing consular assistance within U.S. legal procedures. Seck, 26, who plays for Kentucky State University, was initially arrested on August 7th by ICE agents at Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport while traveling with teammates. She has since been moved between four detention centers in Clay, Chicago, Clark, and Grayson counties, and her family is deeply concerned about her health, particularly a prior ACL tear causing significant pain. The ministry has acknowledged the widespread show of support for Seck and thanked those who have mobilized for her release.
