Human rights group Horizon Sans Frontières has issued an urgent appeal regarding the conditions of over 100 Senegalese migrants detained in Mauritania’s Dar Naïm prison, known as “FK.” Reports from detainees and their families detail severe overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, and a lack of medical care, leading to fears for their health and safety. Detainees with chronic illnesses are allegedly denied regular check-ups and essential medication. Families in Senegal are experiencing significant distress due to lack of information and concerns for their loved ones’ well-being. HSF is urging the Senegalese government to intervene with Mauritanian authorities to ensure medical access, independent evaluation of prison conditions, and respect for detainees’ rights. The organization also requests consideration of repatriation or humanitarian measures for vulnerable cases, emphasizing the responsibility to protect citizens abroad.
