The Senegalese Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has issued a statement clarifying revenue distribution from the Sangomar oil field following public claims that Senegal receives a minimal share of profits. The ministry dismissed assertions claiming Senegal only receives 25 francs for every one million francs of oil sold as "manifestly erroneous," attributing the confusion to a misunderstanding of crude sales, project cost recovery, and revenue sharing agreements outlined in the Production Sharing Contract (PSC). In the first quarter of 2023, Sangomar produced nearly 9 million barrels, valued at $759.2 million. The Senegalese state directly received over 437,000 barrels, amounting to approximately $37.1 million during that period. However, the ministry emphasized this figure doesn't represent the totality of state revenue from the field. It does not include PETROSEN’s share, nor does it account for taxes, duties, and other levies paid to the state.
