Senegal’s army has announced a significant reshuffle of senior officers as part of its standard Arms and Mobilization Plan. Colonel Massamba Thiam has been appointed commander of Military Zone #1, replacing Colonel Clément Chrizogone Nassalan who will now direct the Superior War Course at the Defense Institute of Senegal. Zone #3 will be led by Colonel Abdoulaye Mbengue, previously from the PMS, taking over from Colonel Thiam. Further changes include Colonel Aba Wade leading Zone #6, Colonel Théodore Adrien Sarr heading the Special Operations Command, and Colonel Mouhamadou Abdoulaye Sylla taking command of Zone #7. Colonel Elhadj Omar Faye has been promoted to Chief of Staff of the Chief of General Staff, replacing Colonel Mamour Sarr. Military officials state these moves constitute normal career progression within the armed forces.
