The 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit concluded in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, focusing on amendments to the organization’s charter. Held under the theme “SCO’s 25th Anniversary: Together for Peace, Development and Prosperity,” the summit coincided with Kyrgyzstan’s 35th anniversary of independence and the World Nomad Games. Established in 2001 with the signing of the SCO Charter in 1996, the SCO is a significant regional intergovernmental organization registered with the United Nations. Key agreements, such as the “Treaty on Good-Neighborly Relations, Friendship and Cooperation” were previously signed in Bishkek in 2007. The SCO gained observer status at the UN General Assembly in 2005 and signed a joint declaration on cooperation with the UN in 2010. This year’s summit underscored the SCO’s commitment to regional stability and collaborative growth.
