Sarajevo marked the 33rd anniversary of the death of Safet Zajko, a highly respected commander during the Bosnian War. Zajko, a Brigadier General in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (RBiH), was a key figure in the defense of the city. Commemorations began with a tribute ceremony at the Alipaša Mosque, where flowers were laid in his memory. He was posthumously awarded the “Golden Lily,” a high honor for wartime bravery. Zajko is widely remembered for his leadership during the siege of Sarajevo and is considered a symbol of the city’s resistance. The anniversary serves as a moment of remembrance for all those who defended Sarajevo during the conflict.
