A new regional fisheries enforcement center was officially inaugurated in Katembe, Mozambique, on Thursday. The center, established by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), aims to combat illegal fishing practices within the region. It will serve as a hub for monitoring, control, and surveillance of fishing activities. The facility is intended to bolster sustainable management of fisheries resources across SADC member states. This initiative marks a significant step towards regional integration and cooperation in addressing maritime security and resource protection. The center will facilitate coordinated efforts to deter illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure the long-term health and productivity of the region’s fisheries.
