Construction of the new Rīga Central Station, a key component of the “Rail Baltica” railway project, is nearing completion. Despite significant progress, the station will not welcome passengers for approximately two more years. Latvian Radio reported the delay on August 26, indicating the opening is now anticipated in 2026. This postponement suggests final stages involve intricate systems integration and comprehensive safety checks. The new station aims to modernize rail travel in the Baltic region, connecting it with European networks. While the building is largely finished, further work is needed before it can become fully operational and serve the public. Officials have yet to release detailed reasons for the two-year delay.
