Rwanda has increased its Ebola surveillance and prevention measures following a recent outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), despite no cases being reported within its own borders. Health Minister Daniel Ngamije Nsanzimana emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance to mitigate cross-border transmission risks, citing potential economic and daily life disruptions. As of recent reports, the DRC outbreak has resulted in 808 confirmed cases and 192 deaths, while Uganda has seen 19 cases and 2 deaths, though the country has experienced ten days without new infections. However, authorities warn that the Congolese province of Ituri remains the epicenter, with ongoing daily cases. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) expressed concern, predicting the outbreak could last approximately one year and that the peak is yet to come. Rwanda’s preventative actions aim to protect its population and economy from the spreading epidemic.
