A couple has been sentenced to prison in Finland for a series of scams targeting elderly individuals, including a particularly brazen incident in Turku. The pair defrauded a 79-year-old woman out of 10,000 euros by posing as police officers over the phone. They falsely claimed her bank account was at risk to trick her into revealing her banking credentials. Once provided, the scammers immediately emptied her account. The court has delivered custodial sentences to the pair for their ruthless actions against vulnerable people across the country. This case highlights the growing threat of financial fraud targeting the elderly in Finland.
