A retired British couple aboard their yacht, the Bright Future, report being fired upon with warning shots by a Russian warship in the English Channel. The incident occurred approximately 30 kilometers south of the Isle of Wight, outside of British territorial waters. Russian authorities claim the yacht approached the frigate Admiraal Grigorovitsj too closely, a claim disputed by the couple, Jane and Alan Kelvey. The couple stated they altered course to demonstrate awareness of the warship’s presence after initial sound signals. Despite these actions, warning shots were fired, though reportedly not directly at the yacht. The couple remained calm during the incident, and Russian officials stated they attempted, unsuccessfully, to establish radio contact prior to firing the warning shots.
