Mongolia is experiencing an increase in gasoline prices due to rising costs from Russia, its primary fuel supplier. Rapid Response Task Force representatives announced today that the price of AI-92 gasoline has risen by approximately 500-550 Mongolian Tögrög per liter. This price increase stems from a $190 USD increase in fuel costs from the Russian Federation this month compared to the previous month. Mongolia had secured a three-year fuel supply agreement with Russia but disruptions in Russian oil production due to explosions have led to reduced supply and increased prices. Negotiations are underway with China, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea to diversify fuel sources in anticipation of potential shortages in November and December. Officials have stated they are actively working to normalize fuel supplies. According to Vice Minister B. Mönkh-Tamir, Mongolian businesses purchase fuel from Russia based on the average monthly rate from the St. Petersburg exchange, currently $1,063 USD per ton. Factoring in operational costs and VAT, this translates to a price increase of 500-550 Tögrög per liter at the pump.
