Three bus drivers transporting “russ” – Norwegian high school graduates celebrating the end of their education – had their licenses revoked early Friday morning after police discovered severe overcrowding. During a checkpoint in Darbu, Øvre Eiker, police found one bus registered for 26 passengers carrying 50 individuals. Following consultation with legal counsel, authorities impounded the buses and suspended the licenses of three drivers. The affected students were left to arrange their own transportation. Police have filed charges related to the violations and are emphasizing the safety risks associated with exceeding a vehicle’s passenger capacity, particularly in emergency braking situations. The incident serves as a warning to all “russ” bus operators regarding passenger limits.
