Sikelela Thobigunya has spearheaded significant growth at Bulungula Community Radio in the Eastern Cape since 2018. Initially a small operation, the station now boasts thirteen presenters and connects numerous rural villages in the Xhora Mouth area. Bulungula Community Radio functions as a vital source of local news and information for these communities. Crucially, the station prioritizes youth skills development, providing training and broadcasting opportunities. Currently, the radio station is awaiting a critical licensing decision from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa). Despite the pending decision, Bulungula Community Radio continues its essential role as a community hub. Its continued operation is important for maintaining local connectivity and fostering skills among young people.
