After three years of decline, funding for the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector has increased, a positive development. However, a significant imbalance exists in how these funds are distributed. Currently, 72 percent of the total WASH sector allocation is directed towards urban areas. This concentration raises concerns about equity and access to essential services in rural communities. The disparity highlights a need to address the growing gap between urban and rural infrastructure development. Experts suggest a more balanced approach is crucial to ensure equitable access to clean water and sanitation for all citizens. This uneven allocation potentially hinders progress towards universal access goals and exacerbates existing inequalities.
