The Royal Opera of Stockholm will move to a temporary venue, Gasometer, located in the Norra Djurgårdsstaden district, in approximately six months. The Gasometer, a repurposed gas holder, will serve as the opera house while its main building undergoes renovations or is otherwise unavailable. The new space is designed to accommodate a variety of events, including opera performances, ballet productions, corporate functions, and galas. Officials express confidence that the venue will be adequately sized for performances, stating they “almost have enough space.” This relocation allows the Royal Opera to continue offering performances during the transition period. The Gasometer’s conversion represents an innovative use of industrial architecture for cultural purposes. The move is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
