An explosion at a company in the Rotterdam port area has resulted in one fatality and several injuries. The incident occurred shortly after noon, according to local broadcaster Rijnmond, at a facility on Moezelweg. Police have released limited information at this time, stating only that an investigation is underway. Earlier in the day, power grid operator Stedin reported a power outage in the same area, with a transformer house briefly catching fire due to a possible power surge. This outage caused all processes at a large Exxon Mobil refinery to halt, forcing the plant to flare gases. Authorities are currently investigating a potential connection between the power surge and the subsequent explosion.
