A persistent fire in a Rotterdam parking garage, ignited by an electric vehicle, proved difficult to extinguish overnight. Firefighters responded with significant personnel due to the challenges of electric car fires, and approximately 150 residents were evacuated as a precaution. Two individuals were hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Five cars were completely destroyed by the blaze, which generated substantial black smoke. While residents were allowed to return home around 8:30 AM, a portion of the garden above the garage remains closed pending a structural safety assessment by city building inspectors. Concerns exist that the fire may have compromised the garage’s structural integrity, preventing the removal of the burning vehicle for submersion in water.
