Preliminary data released Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) indicates Romania experienced no economic growth in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the first three months of the year. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) decreased by 0.2% on a gross series and 1.9% on a seasonally adjusted series, year-on-year. This stagnation is attributed to contrasting trends, with household consumption decreasing by 3.1%. However, investments saw a significant increase, growing by 19.9% during the same period. The investment boost partially compensated for the reduction in consumer spending, preventing a larger economic contraction in Romania. These figures offer a mixed picture of the Romanian economy's performance in the first half of 2026.
