Romanian authorities have detained six individuals suspected of operating a scheme involving the theft and resale of luxury vehicles. The group allegedly acquired cars through rentals and leasing agreements, often from Spain, Germany, Italy, and France, without fulfilling payment obligations. Investigators found the suspects falsified vehicle documents and fraudulently registered the cars in Germany before importing them into Romania. Once in Romania, they altered the vehicles’ chassis numbers to conceal their origins and facilitate sales. Sixteen searches were conducted across multiple counties, including Dâmbovița, Ilfov, Buzău, Prahova, and Bucharest, resulting in the seizure of eight luxury cars. The operation targeted a network focused on illicitly profiting from stolen or fraudulently obtained vehicles. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the operation and any potential accomplices.
