The Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) has decided to withdraw from the governing coalition led by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu. UDMR parliamentary leader Csoma Botond announced the decision yesterday, stating that parliamentary groups in the Senate and Chamber of Deputies will formally vote today to withhold support for the government. This move casts doubt on the stability of the current administration. Csoma Botond also commented on attempts to attract members from the AUR party to bolster the coalition, suggesting those efforts may be unsuccessful. He further indicated that Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan may reach a similar conclusion regarding cooperation as that of PMP leader Tomac, potentially further isolating the government. The UDMR’s decision significantly complicates the formation and sustainability of the new executive branch.
