A Romanian court has suspended the contract for a key section of the A8 highway, further delaying the vital infrastructure project. The Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled in favor of companies Construcții Erbașu and Concelex, halting work on the 24 km stretch between Iași and Ungheni. The suspension impacts the design and construction phase of this crucial segment connecting Târgu Neamț to Ungheni, near the border with Moldova. This is yet another setback for the Autostrada Unirii (Union Highway), plagued by numerous legal challenges and protests. The contested portion involves the fourth section of DN24, and crosses the Prut River into Ungheni. The court’s decision follows complaints lodged by the aforementioned construction firms. This suspension adds to growing concerns about Romania’s ability to complete its national highway network on schedule.
