Romania’s interim Minister of Education, Mihai Dimian, has acknowledged the country’s disappointing performance in the upcoming PISA 2025 tests, urging a direct assessment of the situation. He stated the results are weak and require candid evaluation. Dimian highlighted that nearly half of Romanian students are failing to meet minimum proficiency levels in mathematics. A key issue identified is a decline in academic rigor as students progress through *gimnaziu* (middle school). The minister expressed optimism, however, believing that solutions exist to address these challenges and improve educational outcomes in Romania.
