Romanian anti-corruption prosecutors (DNA) have detained three directors from state-owned arms manufacturers on bribery charges. The individuals arrested are Mihai Rafiu, General Director of Uzina Mecanică București, Tiberiu Alexandru Pîrvu, General Director of Uzina Mecanică Plopeni, and Liliana Sorescu, Commercial Director of Uzina Mecanică Plopeni. The DNA investigation revealed significant amounts of cash—hundreds of thousands of euros—were found at the home of one of the detained directors. Authorities have not yet disclosed details regarding the source or purpose of the funds. The three face preventative arrest decisions pending a court hearing Friday. This case raises concerns about corruption within Romania’s defense industry. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged bribery scheme.
