A recent Eurofound report reveals Romania as the sole EU nation with a national minimum wage that hasn't increased between January 2025 and January 2026. While other EU countries saw real wage growth, Romania’s gross minimum wage remained stagnant at 4,050 lei. This stagnation, coupled with exchange rate fluctuations, has resulted in a decrease in the Euro equivalent of the minimum wage, falling from 814 to 795 euros. The report highlights a nearly 8% loss in purchasing power for Romanian minimum wage earners. This contrasts sharply with the positive trends observed across the remaining 22 EU member states studied. The findings indicate a concerning economic situation for low-wage workers in Romania.
