Romania’s interim Defense Minister, Radu Miruță, has proposed a request to Ukraine regarding the operation of sea drones. The proposal centers on programming the drones to self-destruct if they lose control and approach Romanian territorial waters. Specifically, Miruță suggested the drones should detonate approximately 12 nautical miles from the Romanian coastline. This measure aims to prevent accidental or unintended incursions into Romanian waters. The request stems from concerns about the potential for uncontrolled drones to enter the Black Sea area near Romania. The Minister’s statement was reported by TVRinfo, highlighting the proactive approach Romania is taking to address potential security risks. This initiative seeks to balance support for Ukraine with the protection of Romania’s sovereignty and maritime security.
