Romania failed to meet the June 7th deadline for implementing the EU’s Directive 2023/970, aimed at promoting pay transparency and closing the gender pay gap. Cristina Chiriac, president of the National Confederation for Female Entrepreneurship (CONAF), announced the missed deadline on Thursday. The delay is attributed to the current political climate and a standstill in Parliament regarding the transposition of mandatory European directives. This means Romania is currently non-compliant with the EU regulation designed to ensure equal pay for equal work. The directive requires companies to be more open about salary levels and structures. Failure to implement the directive could potentially lead to penalties from the European Union. CONAF expressed concern over the implications of this delay for gender equality in the workplace.
