Key sections of Romania’s highway network, originally slated for completion in 2026, are now projected to be finished in 2027, according to the head of the National Company of Romanian Roads and National Highways Administration (CNAIR), Cristian Pistol. This delay raises concerns about potential loss of funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), a program financed by the European Union. Pistol, recently proposed as the next Minister of Transport, issued the warning regarding the Margina-Holdea section. The postponement stems from unforeseen complications and challenges in the construction process. The delayed completion could impact Romania’s ability to meet PNRR targets and access associated financial resources. This situation places added pressure on the government to accelerate infrastructure projects and ensure timely execution.
