Romania, alongside Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, and Greece, are requesting urgent measures from the European Commission to support their sheep and goat sectors. These countries have been significantly impacted in recent years by outbreaks of peste des petits ruminants (PPR), sheep and goat pox (SGP), and foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). The request focuses on the need for flexible application of restrictions to allow movement and sale of healthy animals from unaffected farms and areas. They also seek facilitated intra-EU circulation of vaccinated animals and continued exports to third countries. Furthermore, the countries are requesting compensation for losses incurred due to these disease outbreaks, as reported by News.ro. The aim is to mitigate the economic impact on farmers and ensure the sustainability of these vital agricultural sectors within the European Union.
