The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched successfully from Florida on Sunday, marking the culmination of over a decade of work. Named after NASA’s first female chief astronomer, the 12-meter telescope was launched via SpaceX. Roman boasts a field of vision 100 times broader than the Hubble Space Telescope, allowing it to survey large areas of the sky more quickly. NASA officials say the telescope will essentially create a new atlas of the universe for Earth. The mission aims to expand our understanding of dark energy, exoplanets, and the structure of the cosmos. Its wide field of view will enable astronomers to observe billions of galaxies.
