A rare Roman lime kiln has been unearthed in Hungary near Bicske during archaeological excavations preceding M1 motorway expansion. The discovery, led by archaeologist Alexandra Kiss and commissioned by the National Archaeological Institute of the Hungarian National Museum, provides valuable insight into Roman industrial practices in the region. Alongside the kiln, archaeologists also identified several medieval storage pits. The lime kiln is considered a significant find due to its rarity and potential to reveal details about Roman construction techniques and material production. Further investigation of the site is expected to yield more information about the area’s history during both Roman and medieval periods. The excavations were conducted by a team comprised of museum staff and volunteers.
