Chinese authorities are utilizing robotic snakes to inspect power lines in Yunnan province, specifically in Kunming, to prevent disruptions during the crucial national college entrance exam. These devices, developed by the Guandu district power supply bureau, are designed to identify potential hazards like damaged wiring, deteriorating parts, and overheating. The robots operate by spiraling around the power lines, providing a non-invasive method for comprehensive inspection. To date, the robotic snakes have covered over 130 kilometers (81 miles) of power lines. The deployment aims to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for students taking the high-stakes exam. This innovative approach highlights a growing trend of using robotics for infrastructure maintenance in China.
