A new study from Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) indicates that ride-hailing applications are fundamentally changing the relationship between taxi drivers and their passengers. Doctoral student Artur Toikka’s research reveals the apps do more than simply connect supply and demand; they actively reshape the expectations held by both parties. The study focuses on the impact of these platforms on behavioral patterns within the transportation sector in Tallinn, Estonia. It suggests the apps are influencing established norms and creating new dynamics in service provision and user experience. This reshaping of expectations extends to areas such as pricing, service quality, and driver-passenger interaction, ultimately altering the roles traditionally held by both drivers and customers. The research highlights the broader societal implications of the gig economy and platform-mediated services.
