Nine female white rhinos have been successfully relocated to Zinave National Park in Mozambique, marking a significant milestone in the park’s restoration efforts. This reintroduction completes the return of the “Big Five” – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino – to PNZ. The rhinos, sourced from South Africa, arrived after a complex logistical operation involving transportation and careful monitoring. Zinave National Park, once heavily impacted by civil war and poaching, has undergone extensive rehabilitation through a partnership between the Mozambican government and Peace Parks Foundation. This project aims to restore the park’s ecological integrity and boost local tourism. Conservationists hope the new rhino population will thrive and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the ecosystem. The reintroduction is a positive step for biodiversity in Mozambique and a demonstration of successful conservation collaboration.
