A mass grave containing numerous bodies has been discovered during exhumation efforts in the Riwne district, Ukraine. The discovery relates to the Volhynian massacre, a horrific series of ethnic cleansings of Poles carried out by Ukrainian nationalists during World War II. Authorities initiated the exhumation to identify and properly bury the victims of the atrocities. The uncovering of this “pile of bodies,” as described in reports, highlights the scale of the violence perpetrated during this dark period of history. This find will contribute to ongoing investigations and efforts to document the full extent of the tragedy. Specialists are now working to identify the remains and provide them with dignified burials. The exhumation continues as researchers seek to uncover more information about those murdered during the Volhynian massacre.
