The Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) in Poland has announced the discovery of a first grave at the site of the former Peniak camp, known as Huta Pieniacka. Initial findings suggest the site contains a mass burial. Remains have been recovered from the grave, with some exhibiting evidence of partial burning. The IPN’s Search and Identification Bureau, led by Father Tomasz Trzaska, is investigating the discovery. Huta Pieniacka was the site of a massacre of Polish civilians by Ukrainian nationalists in 1944. The discovery is part of ongoing efforts to locate and identify victims of wartime atrocities in the region. Further investigation and forensic analysis are planned to determine the number of individuals buried and their identities.
