Ten years after his abduction in Cairo, a verdict has been reached in the case of Giulio Regeni, the young researcher from Friuli. Three Egyptian intelligence officers were sentenced to ten years in prison, however, the more serious charge of murder was dropped. The sentence provides a partial resolution to a case that has strained relations between Italy and Egypt for years. Regeni was kidnapped, tortured, and ultimately killed in Cairo a decade ago, sparking international outcry and a lengthy investigation. The parents' lawyer stated that any meeting between Foreign Minister Tajani and President Al Sisi is not their concern, suggesting continued dissatisfaction with the handling of the case. This outcome is seen as insufficient by many seeking full justice for Regeni’s death.
