Rabat is enhancing its literary landscape ahead of its 2026 designation as the UNESCO World Book Capital. Recently, new “proximity libraries” have opened in the city, including one in the Nzahah Hassan garden and two at the Chellah archaeological site. Further expansions are planned for botanical gardens and tram stations throughout the capital. These "close-by libraries" aim to increase access to books and promote reading within the community. The initiative signifies Rabat’s commitment to fostering a reading culture as it prepares to host the global literary event. Hespress reports these libraries represent a new step in making literature more accessible to city residents.
