In the Koyra Union of Ullapara Upazila, Sirajganj, approximately 20 large palm trees were uprooted to facilitate road development. These trees were originally planted 10 to 12 years ago by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief specifically to protect the area from lightning strikes. Local residents reported that a backhoe machine was used to clear the trees during the renovation of the dirt road. This action has sparked significant anger and frustration among the local community. Residents are concerned that the removal of these natural barriers will leave them vulnerable to lightning. The incident highlights a conflict between infrastructure improvement and disaster prevention efforts. Local sources continue to express their grievances over the loss of these government-planted assets.
