Ten new “Stumbling Stones” (Kameny zmizelých) were installed in Prostějov, Czech Republic, on Tuesday, bringing the total number of these memorials in the city to 110. The stones commemorate Jewish residents of Prostějov who were murdered during World War II by the Nazi regime. The installation was organized by the Hanácký Jeruzalém association, a local group dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust. Relatives of the victims, traveling from Israel, attended the ceremony. These “Stumbling Stones” are small, brass plaques set into the pavement, bearing the names and fates of individuals persecuted by the Nazis. The project aims to ensure the victims are not forgotten and to raise awareness about the Holocaust’s impact on the local community. This latest installation continues an ongoing effort to memorialize all Jewish citizens lost during that period.
