The Norwegian Parliament has unanimously approved a constitutional amendment allowing Princess Ingrid Alexandra to serve as regent when the King and Crown Prince are unavailable. Currently, in their absence, the government functions as head of state. This change will enable the Princess to lead the Council of State – a formal meeting of the monarch and their advisors – if necessary. The decision stems from a recommendation by the Parliament's Standing Committee on Scrutiny and Constitution. This amendment modernizes the line of succession and clarifies the process for temporary leadership. The move ensures continuity of state functions during periods of royal incapacity or absence. The constitutional change is expected to be formally adopted shortly.
