The 14th international conference honoring the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize laureate will be held in Praha on Wednesday. This year’s laureate is Iranian lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh, who has represented activists, journalists, minorities, and children facing the death penalty, while advocating for the abolition of compulsory hijab and capital punishment. Sotoudeh has faced repeated arrests and spent years in prison for her work. The conference, themed “The Weight of the Word,” will feature stories from past laureates who have experienced imprisonment, alongside contributions from experts. Participants will include Russian teacher and documentarian Pavel Talankin, creator of “Mr. Nobody vs. Putin,” and Belarusian opposition politician Maryja Kalesnikava. The event aims to highlight the power of voice in the face of oppression.
