Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has accepted an invitation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to form a government in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). The PPP secured a majority in the GB Legislative Assembly, winning 11 of 24 seats in the June 7 elections. Despite this, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will assume the role of the opposition in the assembly. However, the PML-N has pledged to vote in favor of the PPP to facilitate government formation and will be allocated the positions of governor and deputy speaker. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari hailed the move as a continuation of democratic norms and affirmed the PPP’s commitment to serving the people of GB. He expressed gratitude to the electorate for entrusting the party with safeguarding their rights. Recent discussions between PPP and PML-N delegations paved the way for this agreement, described by the PPP as a “major breakthrough.”
