Following recent elections where the PPP emerged as the leading party, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has nominated Advocate Amjad Hussain as the next Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. This decision comes after the PPP reached an agreement with the PML-N to form a coalition government in the region. Under the power-sharing arrangement, the PML-N will hold the positions of governor and leader of the opposition. Hussain, the current PPP provincial president since 2016, also won a seat in the recent general elections. He previously served as a member of the GB Assembly from 2020 to 2025 and the GB Council from 2009 to 2014, and was opposition leader from 2020-2023. Bhutto-Zardari has tasked Hussain with forming the government and prioritizing the constitutional and economic rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
